Project Overview

The Sensory Bag was designed to support therapy for children aged 3+ experiencing sensory integration disorders. The concept refers to the early stages of a child’s neurophysiological development, when sensory systems and neural connections are actively forming. Its primary purpose is to stimulate tactile receptors and encourage the development of neural pathways through play-based interaction.

The object takes the form of a soft bag which, when unfolded, transforms into a circular play mat. At its center is a soft container intended for natural loose-fill materials such as rice, corn, or beans. Direct contact between the child’s hands or feet and the textured contents enables various therapeutic play activities that support sensory exploration, body awareness, and motor development.

The design allows multiple forms of engagement, including:
– searching for hidden objects in the rice,
– stepping and moving across the textured surface,
– drawing simple shapes in the scattered material.

The project combines therapeutic function with playful interaction, creating a safe, adaptable environment that encourages sensory stimulation, exploration, and learning through touch and movement.
