01 / Overview

A connected 3D asset workflow.

A 3D asset is more than a model file. It also needs previews, dimensions, material information, production notes and a clear publication state. FORMA brings these connected parts into one desktop workflow.

My work covered the experience from finding an existing asset to editing its data and preparing it for the next stage. I designed the UX and interface, then implemented the application and its supporting file workflows.

Find & organise

Search and filter by category, materials and metadata. Browse assets in list or thumbnail views, with an Inspector for closer review.

Prepare & validate

Keep production checklists, model packages and preview images with each asset. Validate the files and preview specifications as part of the workflow.

Present & maintain

Connect the library to a Shapespark showroom, create local backups and manage controlled synchronisation and application updates.

02 / Design

UX & UI design

I structured the navigation around the library, asset editing, publishing, validation and backup tasks. Search, contextual filters and preview modes give users different ways into the same collection, while the Inspector keeps detail close to the current selection.

The UI uses a consistent dark palette, clear metadata groupings and reusable controls. Drafts, pinning, locks and status feedback help distinguish browsing, editing and protected states.

03 / Build

Development & coding

I built FORMA in Python and Tkinter, connecting the interface to a structured data layer and controlled file operations.

Desktop interface

Screen layouts, custom controls, interaction states and feedback implemented for the Windows application.

Asset data

JSON records hold each asset’s metadata; a rebuildable SQLite index supports search, filtering and library views.

Workflow integration

File staging, validation, recoverable drafts, backups and updates, plus an embedded Microsoft Edge view for the Shapespark showroom.
